Background

Although sildenafil citrate has been demonstrated to improve erectile dysfunction in a small number of patients, its efficacy remains controversial. The objective of this study was to investigate the efficacy of sildenafil citrate in patients with erectile dysfunction who have not responded to other treatment modalities.
The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the efficacy of sildenafil citrate (50 mg, three times a day) in patients with erectile dysfunction who have not responded to other treatment modalities.
Methods
This open-label, double-blind, randomized, single-center, parallel-group, dose-finding study (NCT00113960) was conducted at the Department of Urology, Department of Urology of Khmer City, Khmer Health Clinic, Bangkok, Thailand.
Results
There were a total of 563 patients, with a mean age of 53 years, and mean duration of ED from ED diagnosis was 17.1 ± 6.3 years. There was no statistically significant difference between the groups regarding age, gender, and the duration of ED from ED diagnosis (p = 0.924).
Conclusion
Sildenafil citrate has a favorable efficacy in the treatment of patients with erectile dysfunction, with a favorable safety profile in the treatment of patients with erectile dysfunction.
